The maritime museum is open in its new site on the west bank of Channel Islands Harbor with three major galleries featuring 4 centuries of seascape paintings and global naval history illustrated with historic ship models.
The museum celebrated its 21st anniversary and moved its collection to a two-story site overlooking the Channel Islands Harbor in 2012.
The museum exhibits the collection on long-term loan from the Nelson Maritime Arts Foundation of 100 paintings and engravings and 80 ship models.
The museum has a research library.
The museum trains a new group of volunteers three times a year. The docents lead free gallery tours daily and present the education program for 3rd-6th graders. Exhibits include an annual high school district-wide show, "Nautica," a show of local artists'work and a variety of national and international maritime artwork.
The museum features 3 galleries downstairs and an outdoor patio area for interactive activities. The second story will have a gallery area and a lecture hall seating 75-100 people. The library will be open on the second floor 11-5 pm for research.
