Housed in the former 100 year old 1910 Merchants Bank building, the Halifax Historical Museum exhibits depict local history beginning in 5,000 BC with the Timucuan Indians, the Seminole Native Americans and includes the Civil War, Victorian Era and up to the present day. There is a Racing Zone that covers beach/road racing in Daytona Beach, Ormand Beach and Daytona Beach Shores. The War Zone covers World War I & II in Daytona Beach, FLorida. Grandma's Attic contains vintage clothing and toys for children. Visitors are treated to a 20 minute movie that covers 130,000 years of history in the Halifax Area.
Extensive vintage photo and document archives are available in the Museum for research. There is also a Gift Shop selling books on local history, china, crystal and other donated items. Please see our website: www.halifaxhistorical.org
To obtain, preserve, exhibit, stimulate interest in and educate the public of the history of that part of Volusia County, Florida, known as Halifax Country, Eastern Volusia County.
In 2010, the Halifax Historical Society, Inc. celebrated it 61st Anniversary.
The Halifax Historical Museum has been in operation in the 100 year old Merchants Bank Building, since 1986, 24 years. The Merchants Bank Building is a destination in itself.
