Cincinnati Aviation Heritage Society
Cincinnati, Ohio
Description

This museum seeks to win grants and gifts that will enable it to build a hangar size museum within 5-7 years of 2009. We are presently developing programs for the community that will help form supporting alliances within the communities surrounding Lunken airport. The interest of this institution is to promote the history of general aviation and Airline information by preserving artifacts and information within the 100 mile radius of downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.

Mission
Vision:

Develop a regional aviation historical research and educational center with an emphasis on Civil Aviation, in the past present and beyond.

Mission

We will expand. maintain and share the museum's historical collection and in so doing, we will create aviation educational programs and grow collaborative efforts with other historical groups and museums.

All of this will focus on developments, achievements, industry and personalities that pertain to civil aviation in the Cincinnati region.

History

Since July 2004, CAHS has been meeting mostly as a discussion group with an eye toward learning more about the history of aviation in the Cincinnati, Ohio Tri-State (OH, KY & IN) area. Regular meetings have been held on the third Friday of every month since.

Early on in these monthly 3rd Friday meetings, our strategy began to take shape. Discussions were held with Lunken Airport Management and Cincinnati City Officials about the possibility of establishing a museum at the airport. The meetings have resulted in the airport adding a 6 acre plot on the current Master Plan designated as air museum.

Artifact Collections

Collection includes Radio Controlled model airplanes and real airplanes as well. The museum has a Rutan Vari-Viggen, a Smith Termite, a full scale replica of a 1903 Wright Flyer. A Stinson SR-10C Reliant is expected to join the collection soon.

Research Collections

Our Library collection consists of approximately 400 volumes of Books and a like number of magazines including Sport Aviation, The Captain's Log (of the World Airline Historical Society).

Programs

Educational programs will be implemented once the museum is housed in a stand alone facility.
