Description

The historic landmark station houses an ecclectic collection of railroad and local history items. The collection offeres a virtual timeline into the impact the station and railroad had on the development of the local area. The membership meets regularly to archive and update the collection. New exhibits and displays are always in motion to enhance the visitor's museum experience. The museum also has a restored caboose, which membership has restored and additional displays and an operating model train layout are maintained. An upcoming project will involve the restoration of a vintage diesel locomotive, which will complement the museums collection.

History

The all-volunteer, 501(C)3 non-profit Maywood Station Historical Committee was formed in May 2002 to save, restore and preserve the 1872-built landmark New York, Susquehanna & Western railroad station in Maywood, NJ. The majority of the restoration was concluded by the membership during the summer of 2004. The station is now listed on the National and New Jersey Historic Registers. In September 2004, the station was opened as a museum covering railroad and local history. The museum has acquired and restored a caboose where additional displays and an operating model train layout are featured. Open Houses are conducted periodically throughout the year.
