Description

We are dedicated to developing and operating the Battle of Plattsburgh Interpretive Center and War of 1812 Museum. In this effort we will collect, preserve and maintain appropriate artifacts and undertake a national education effort to publicize the significance of the Battle of Plattsburgh in the War of 1812 and our nation’s history.

Through public support and membership we hold activities and events related to the War of 1812. We are continuing to expand the museum, looking forward to the War of 1812 bicentennial in 2012 and the bicentennial of the Battle of Plattsburgh in 2014.

History

The Battle of Plattsburgh Association was founded in 1998 and found its permanent location on the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base (closed in 1995.) We since transfered the Alan S. Everest Interpretive Center from City Hall in Plattsburgh, expanding upon it. The KeyBank art gallery, Press Republican theater, changing exhibit area, and History Shoppe are now open to the public. Together the Battle of Plattsburgh Association, Champlain Valley Transportation Museum, and Clinton County Historical Association create a museum campus on the former airbase property.

Artifact Collections

The collections includes both donated and long-term loan items relating to the War of 1812 and Battle of Plattsburgh. The types of items include books, documents, paintings, prints, original artifacts from the Battle of Plattsburgh (land & naval).

Research Collections

Our research collection is growing through donations. We also maintain a dvd database of all presentations held at the Association. All materials relate to the War of 1812.

Programs

The Battle of Plattsburgh Association offers a variety of on-site educational programs including lectures, exhibits, teachers workshops, docent training, and re-enactments. Guided tours can be organized to fit the needs of each group at the cost of $3/person. Our website offers lesson plans set to National Standards.
