We provide the history of the railroads past to all ages. We are a hands on museum for children and adults alike.
Our museum is located in the rail cars and steam locomotive located in Grant Beach Park.
1953 - The recently retired Frisco RR steam locomotive #4524 donated to City of Springfield and moved to museum site.
1985 - Fairmont Ry. Motors Model M9G Track Motor Car donated by
1988 - 24 ft. high roof canopy (32ft. x 60ft.) constructed to protect the locomotive from the weather.
1989 - Burlington Northern Caboose #19768, moved to the museum and refurbished.
1990 - Burlington Northern Express Car #976100 acquired, placed between locomotive and caboose and refurbished.
2000 - Former Chicago North Western commuter passenger car moved to museum and placed on ties and rail furnished/installeld by Burlilngton Northern Railroad. Ballast and extension of chain link fence furnished/installed by
Springfield Park Department.
2005 - Depot Baggage Wagon donated by Walter Cotter.
2009 - 24 ft. high roof canopy extended to also cover the locomotive tender. Springfield Park Department relocated the chain link fence and added picnic tables
Date ? - Pump Car added and rebuilt 2010
Day 1 until present - Numerous donations of RR Memorabilia received and on display in cars.
Artifacts from the St. Louis San Friscisco railroad and many other railroads.
