Brookside Gardens is a horticultural display garden whose mission is to foster an appreciation for the art of gardening and science of horticulture through plant collections, horticultural displays, learning opportunities and events. We are a community resource for a diverse population who come to relax, learn, exercise, and enjoy the beauty of the gardens as a respite from the surrounding urban environment.
Brookside Gardens opened to the public in 1969, with a Conservatory and a small portion of the total 50 acres developed as gardens. Since that time, more gardens have been created and refined to showcase new and unusual plants suitable to the region. In 1997, the Visitors Center opened to increase class room and meeting space, expand the horticultural library, and add a gift shop.
Brookside Gardens is owned and operated by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
