FOOTHILLS ONE: Built in 1872 in downtown Golden’s main street, this beautiful Gothic church—with original stained glass windows still intact—that once housed local parishioners still evokes reverence both through its unique, combination of architectural elements and the remarkable art showcased within the walls.
FOOTHILLS TWO: An elegant Victorian mansion constructed in 1899 as a private residence, our second building known as "Foothills Two", boasts three gallery rooms displaying the work of Colorado artists. Original wood molding, rounded walls, fluted porch columns set with curved arches and stained glass windows help highlight the history of the building and the colors of the art.
SCULPTURE GARDEN: The Carol & Don Dickinson Sculpture Garden features several diverse and extraordinary sculptural works by well known artists. Originally conceived as a response to the City’s large collection of public art that focused solely on traditional bronzes. With this in mind, the vision of the garden was to provide the public with a supplemental public art choice highlighting the beauty and importance of outdoor Contemporary public art. With pieces both permanent and works on loan, the garden is a constantly changing outdoor exhibition unto itself.
The Foothills Art Center was created for and is devoted to our mission of ENGAGING THE MIND AND INSPIRING THE SPIRIT—OFFERING THE WORLD OF ART THROUGH EXHIBITION AND EDUCATION. The center is housed in two exceptional, architectural gems—an 1872 renovated Gothic church and a Victorian mansion—both works of art themselves and official members on the United States National Registry of Historic Buildings. The Center is committed to delivering engaging exhibitions and diverse educational programs that create memorable visitor experiences in our unique historic environment. We are dedicated to sharing both traditional and contemporary artworks in all mediums on both the national scale as well as our steadfast philosophy of creating a “home” for Colorado artists. The Center’s distinct atmosphere provides a one-of-a kind experience.
1872: Made from Colorado stone and brick in a modified Gothic fashion, the main building of Foothills Art Center (known as Foothills One) was lovingly erected as the First Presbyterian church sitting on the hilltop of Golden’s main street overlooking the Clear Creek valley.
