Description

The Texas City Museum is supported by the City of Texas City. Located at 409 6th Street North in Texas City, the Museum acquired its current building in March 1992. The 30,000 sq. ft. building, previously known as the old J.C. Penney building, was donated by the McDaniel family of La Marque. Since its opening in March 1994, visitors from around the United States and abroad have toured the Museum.

The Galveston County Model Railroad Club is pleased to call the Texas City Museum its permanent home. The Galveston County Model Railroad Club (GCMRRC) is a non-profit club bringing together modelers of all scales interested in expanding their knowledge and modeling abilities. Established in 1989, the GCMRRC board consists of seven officers and committeemen who guide the club in activities and goals. The club originated in Galveston and moved to its present location in January 1996. The club layout consists of an "E-shaped" 32' x 52' N scale layout, a 26' x 36' L-shaped HO layout, a 10' x 14' G scale interactive layout for kids, and an 8' x 50' Lionel layout. The GCMRRC has a growing resource library, as well as a vast display of railroad memorabilia from members. The newest layout, a 3' x 36' traveling display, can run several trains at once. There are five interactive sound modules and 40-plus animated scenes that make up the overall layout.

The Texas City Museum is pleased to offer a Children's Discovery Place -- "An Interactive Learning Experience." The Discovery Place features exhibits such as Dinosaur Dig, Whisper Dish, Mexican Mercado, Rubbing Wall, Hoopie's Travels, Interactive Zeotropes and much more.

Visitors to the museum are encouraged to experience the past, encounter the present and discover the future. The Discovery Place is an ideal destination for field trips and afternoons of discovery with your family. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors over 60, and $1 for students (12 and under). All children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Museum members and children under age 6 are admitted free of charge. To schedule your field trip or to take part in an exciting afternoon of discovery, call (409) 643-5799 or visit 409 6th Street North in Texas City.
