Sebastopol is a Greek Revival home built by slaves for Joshua Young from 1854 to 1856. It is the earliest intact surviving example of concrete construction west of the Mississippi River. The State of Texas purchased the property in 1976 and spent 8 years restoring the property, it is presently operated by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
27 pieces in collection--solely furniture, owned by families who occupied house, some Texas made pieces.
Guided tours for drop in visitors and Adult Group tours. Variety of curriculum based chidlrens tours available by appointment. Please call for catalogue. Annual "Toast of Texas" event on March 2. Annual May Day event, 1st Saturday of May.
