The Historic Upshur Museum was chartered in 1992, the Historic Upshur Museum opened its current permanent displays in April, 1996. The musuem features history of the county, East Texas Yamboree, etc.
Upshur county is located 120 miles east of Dallas, 80 miles west of Shreveport collection includes Caddo and archaic period artifacts, documents and photographs from the first 150 years of European settlement, tools, some furniture, military uniforms, costumes from the East Texas Yamboree, pottery, and other miscellaneous artifacts. Over 10,000 photographs with the inventory only partially catalogued and accessioned.
Miscellaneous documents, letters, reports from Upshur county residents. Negatives from the J.M. Hays studio may be researched with supervision.

Publication of a history of some families in the county as contributed to Upshur County Texas Sesquicentennial Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and given to the museum, a cookbook, A HUMdinger of a Cookbook, Schedule for release in Ocotber 2000, and a census of cemeteries in the county in the future.
