The Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Center for Legal History opened in May 1991. It opened as an archives and research center which would also produce exhibits. It was the product of years of effort by member of the State Bar of Texas who wanted to make sure the history of the Texas bench and bar was preserved. The History Center still operates primarily as an archives and research center. It has produced exhibits, but sporadically. New plans are underway, however, to expand both its artifact holdings and the accessibility and breadth of its archival holdings. Long range goals include a permanent exhibit space, educational programs, and a permanent artifact collection.
State Bar of Texas records 1939 and collection of Texas Bar Association records 1882 - 1938.
