Museum maintains collections of ranch and farm artifacts. A five-room house, rebuilt inside the main exhibit hall, is furnished with pieces from the early 1900s.
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) works to identify, preserve and protect historic properties across the state. Historic properties can include buildings and structures such as bridges and towers, as well historic landscapes and cemeteries.
In 1963, the Swisher County Archives and Museum Association began in a room of the court house. After moving to a second location in 1964, the association moved to its permanent residence in the Memorial Building in 1977.
The collections focus on Swisher County history, from late 1800's to present. The association has a collection of farm machinery and farm equipment. The association has an elegant house that is completely furnished with early 1900's furniture; a rural home furnished from the 1930's; and a log cabin that was used on the JA ranch. The log cabin was known as a "line cabin" because they were built along fences so cowboys would not have to ride back to the house. The association's largest exhibits include one of JO Bass Blacksmith Shop & Equipment and an exhibit of his bits & spurs, a military exhibit from WWI to Desert Storm, and Santa Fe Railroad exhibit.
Period house, military, historical artifacts from swisher county, art, quanah parker exhibit, J. O. Bass spur collection.
One of our biggest displays is the Quanah Parker ceremonial Peyote Robe and Indian artifacts that included the area in the Quanah Parker Trail.
Coming soon a pre-historic equuis-Scotti horse exhibit found at Lake Mackenzie ; we also have mammouth and pytosaurus fossils found in the area.
Tulia Herald newspapers dating back to early 1900s on microfiche, books on Swisher County history, obituaries from local newspapers 1923-Present (some years missing)
