The La Quinta Museum celebrates La Quinta's history and cultural arts through displays on two floors. There is a diorama of a Cahuilla Indian village and another depicting native animals. Photos of the early resorts remind us of the attraction of the desert early on. The community room exhibits a 32 foot long mural of La Quinta highlights painted by Andre Blanche. While you're there stop in the Museum Store, the place to shop for books about the area and many unique items, some created by local artists.
Our first floor gallery features a permanent local history exhibit. In it, text panels about the local Cahuilla Indians are interspersed in between both reproduction and authentic artifacts from the tribe. Information about the Desert Club and the La Quinta Hotel are highlighted as well by our extensive collection of objects and photographs. The showpiece of The La Quinta Museum can be found in our Community Room, which is home to a large mural painted by former resident Andre Blanche. The mural depicts life throughout the decades in La Quinta and is a perfect illustration of why we are referred to as "The Gem of the Desert."
