Three Museums in 100-year-old buildings in the National Registry of Historic Places - The three represent Local, Military, and Railroading History on the Historic National Road in Greenup, IL. The local genealogy library resides in the Historic Johnson Building where artifacts of local history are displayed. The Greenup Depot houses model railroads and historical artifacts and photos. The Cumberland County Military Museum honors local veterans with displays of memorabilia and recordings of local history.
The CCHGS mission is to discover and collect material to help establish or illustrate the the history of the individuals, communities, enterprises of Cumberland County Illinois, to preserve the collected materials and provide for public access to them, to undertake and assist in the preservation of historic buildings and sites, to integrate and educate the public in the history of Cumberland County and Illinois, and to work with other organizations to collect and preserve materials of state-wide significance.
The Cumberland County Historical Society began with a group of people interested in preserving the history and genealogy of the area. The Greenup Depot (1870) was the first building purchased by the CCHGS in 1973. The Society grew and developed acquiring the Johnson Building (1895) and the Carnegie Library (1904)which, through volunteer effort and generous grants have become a part of the parade of history available in the Cumberland County Museum Complex on the National Road.

Genealogical records and cemetery records for Cumberland County Illinois and limited surrounding areas.
