Explore local history, South Florida lifestyle, climate, and architecture, as our focus is on the years 1915 to 1935, and this historic house is furnished as if a family lived there in that period.
There are many “beach memories” here—the days when the Barefoot Mailman used to walk the beach to deliver mail in sparsely settled old Dade County and stopped for the night at the House of Refuge; the days when the shops on Atlantic Avenue shut down at the call, “the blue fish are running”; and the night in the 1930s when a smuggler’s cache of rum washed up on the beach just before the end of prohibition.
