Regional historical society that encompasses Southwest Kentucky and Northwest Tennessee.
The Jackson Purchase Historical Society shall have as its purpose, within the region encompassing all the territory in the Chickasaw Purchase of 1818: (a) to promote interest and study in regional history; (b) to help preserve historical facts, memorabilia, and general heritage of this region; (c) to improve public understanding and appreciation for this area by participation in observances and dedications of local historical significance; and (d) to act as a resource for educational institutions. The Society was formally established on November 28, 1958 at the Collegiate Restaurant on West Main Street in Murray, Kentucky. In June of 1973, the first issue of the "Journal of the Jackson Purchase Historical Society" was published and distributed to its members. The Society now meets four times a year ? Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.
Published and printed regional and county histories, manuscript materials, oral histories and other significantly unique items realted to the Jackson Purchase area of Kentucky and Tennessee.
