Museum of Chincoteague Island is a non-profit educational institution founded in 1965 as the Oyster Museum and changed its name to Oyster and Maritime Museum in 1996 when it acquired the Fresnel lens. The name of the Museum was changed in 2011 to more correctly reflect its collection.
