The Middlesex County Museum, located in the center of the town of Saluda, is the oldest county museum in the state
On display is a variety of memorabilia, including military items, Indian relics, toys, personal effects, maritime, agricultural and industrial tools. Operated by the Middlesex County Museum Board and staffed by volunteers.
In 1935, the museum was first opened as a Federal Art Project under the Roosevelt administration, and the first organized by a woman’s club. The building was located in the Old Clerk’s Office on the grounds of the courthouse. The museum closed in 1942 due to World War II and did not re-open until 1974 in anticipation of the nation’s bicentennial. In 1998, having outgrown its space in the Old Clerk’s Office, the museum was relocated to a larger, renovated structure one block down the street
Country Store, Vintage Textiles, County Artifacts and historical documents.
