Located at the historic Crossing at the Dan, the Danville Science Center delights all ages with its hands-on exhibits, natural history collection and special programs that make science fun for everyone. During butterfly season (April-October), visit the Center's Butterfly Station and Garden - one of only a few butterfly greenhouses in Virginia. The Science Center is a division of the Science Museum of Virginia.
The Estelle H. Womack Natural History Collection includes a wide range of native and non-native land mammals. Also in the collection are numerous birds, reptiles, insects, shells, fossils, rocks and minerals. All elements of the collection were acquired and donated by local collectors.
We offer a wide range of classes, summer camps, lectures, field trips and teacher professional development courses all focused on increasing engagement with science concepts through hands-on learning. We also offer outreach programs, but do not loan materials.
The Science Museum of Virginia is an agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
We produce an annual group visit guide distributed to our group audiences and a member newsletter that is distributed 3 times a year.
