The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society (GLSHS) is dedicated to preserving the lore, artifacts and material culture of our Great Lakes. Through research, discovery, and documentation, GLSHS is working to keep alive the spirit of adventure of our maritime past.
To collect, preserve, study and interpret the material culture of the Great Lakes with primary emphasis on maritime history as it relates to the U.S. Lifesaving Service, U.S. Lighthouse Service, U.S. Coast Guard, ships and travelers who fell victim to the perils of maritime transport.
Founded in 1978 by a group of teachers, historians and divers, the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society (GLSHS) has earned its reputation as a leading professional maritime organization through careful planning and quality of programs and services. The result is a world class facility that continues to win the praises, awards and accolades of public and professional entities.
