Berkeley Plantation

Berkeley is the location of the first official Thanksgiving and birthplace of Benjamin Harrison and President W.H. Harrison. It was the Civil War headquarters of Gen. McClellan. The site includes the 1726 mansion, antiques, gardens, restaurant, and gift shop.

Piney Grove At Southall's Plantation

A National Register site first settled by Virginia's prominent Southall Family. This museum of folk architecture includes Piney Grove (1790), Ashland (1835), Dower Quarter (1835), Ladysmith (1857), and Duck Church (1917).

Shirley Plantation

Encompassing over 700 riverfront acres, Shirley Plantation is America’s oldest farm and family-owned business and is lived in and actively managed by direct descendants of the original builders. Considered an architectural treasure due to its “flying staircase”, authentic structures and hand-carved woodwork, Shirley Plantation has welcomed visitors for hundreds of years.

Kittiewan Plantation

The Archeological Society of Virginia (ASV) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the study of archaeology and providing research and education opportunities across the state. Members participate in excavations and host a variety of events designed to promote archeology. Kittiewan Plantation, a Colonial-period plantation house and associated grounds and buildings located in Charles City County, is home to the ASV.

Sherwood Forest Plantation
Charles City, Virginia

History, Historic House

The 1730 estate was the home of John Tyler, 10th President of the United Sates. He lived in the house from 1842 until his death in 1862. It has remained in the Tyler family and is presently owned and occupied by Tyler's grandson. Free for VAM members.
