Mayowood was built in 1911 by Dr. Charles H. Mayo, who lived there until 1939. Now, this 38 room historic house is home to an extensive decorative arts collection, gorgeous gardens, and antique furnishings from French, Spanish, German, and American cultures.

The Minnesota Historical Society is chief caretaker of Minnesota's story—and the History Center is home to the Society's vast collections. Within its archives reside artifacts ranging from American Indian moccasins and artwork to furniture and photographs, Civil War-era flags and a wealth of geneaological information. The Mower County Historical Society serves as the center for preserving the history of Mower County. Visitors to the Austin site will have the opportunity to view 16 buildings and 11 thematic exhibits across our fairgrounds. The Austin site is home to our research library where the public may take advantage of to research their family history or general history topics. MCHS owns and operates the GAR Hall in Grand Meadow.

Welcome to the McLeod County Historical Society in Hutchinson, Minnesota. We are dedicated to connecting with the past, understanding the present and making informed choices about the future by finding, preserving, explaining and sharing McLeod County History. Along with an extensive exhibit area and art gallery, our building houses a document and photograph archive. A workshop and storage area provides space to manage and maintain a large collection. Research information for family history and genealogy is provided in a library which includes printed materials and microfilms. A large meeting room and attached kitchen provide a comfortable place for historical programs and other public and private gatherings.
