The Hagadorn House was built in the early 1830's by Jesse Angell, a prosperous merchant whose general store was located across the street from his house. By 1867, the house was occupied by the John Wetherby family. Their daughter, Cornelia Wetherby married William Hagadorn in 1869. They resided here with her parents. In 1872 the Wetherbys moved to their farm and the house became the Hagadorn home.

The American Merchant Museum serves as a repository for the USMMA's extensive and valuable collection of marine art, ship models and nautical artifacts. The Museum's mission is to educate and inform visitors about the American merchant marine in a learning center for the regiment and public at large, to promote public interest in and understanding of our nation's merchant marine and to collect, preserve and exhibit historic items that represent our nation's rich seafaring heritage. The Museum employs imaginative exhibitions and displays to illustrate what the American merchant marine is and who its leaders are.

THE WARNER HOUSE The lovely old house on Constitution Island was the home of the Warner family from 1836 to 1915. Susan and Anna Warner were well-known writers in the Nineteenth Century. Susan wrote The Wide, Wide World in 1850, which became a bestseller of its day. Anna is best known for writing the words to the hymn "Jesus Loves Me." The sisters taught Bible classes to West Point cadets for 40 years. The oldest part of the Warner House includes a thick stone wall existing from Revolutionary War days. The Victorian wing of eight rooms was built by Henry Warner in 1836 when he moved his family from New York City to the island. The house is furnished with the original Warner family possessions.

The Edward Hopper House Art Center is a dynamic multi-arts center situated in the birthplace and childhood home of renowned American realist painter Edward Hopper (1882-1967). The Fenton History Center - Museum & Library is a local history museum and research library that concentrates on southern Chautauqua County NY and Jamestown NY. The museum & library are housed in the 1863 Italianate Villa style home of former NYS Governor Reuben E. Fenton (1865-1869). The house was also the last office of the Grand ARmy of the Republic (GAR), the military veterans agency that oversaw the Civil War soldiers. THe museum represents the Victorian era, settlement times and local history through period rooms (both restored and recreated) and many different exhibits. The Jamestown area has a rich history in politics, industry and transportation. The local history library is also a rich resource for genealogy research.
