The South Carolina State Museum is filled with the best of South Carolina history, science and technology, art and natural history. The mission of the Spartanburg County Historical Association is to explore and preserve our region's history by collecting and sharing the stories of the people who shaped that history. To accomplish this mission, the Association engages visitors in unique living history programs and events in the city and county of Spartanburg; inspires learners of all ages to investigate the history that begins in their own backyard at our historic sites and regional museum; and involves the community in the preservation of our shared past. It undertakes this mission at the Spartanburg Regional History Museum and three historic sites: the Seay House, Historic Price House, and Walnut Grove Plantation.

Santee NWR, established in 1941, is located in Clarendon County, South Carolina. Of the total 13,000 acres that make up the refuge, only 4,400 acres are owned with the remaining acreage being managed under a lease agreement with the South Carolina Public Service Authority (aka Santee-Cooper). The refuge also manages 10 conservation easements on private lands, totalling 458 acres in Bamberg, Barnwell, Clarendon and Orangeburg counties.

The Sumter County Museum is a private non-profit institution whose mission is to promote the history of Old Sumter District through the preservation and exhibition of objects, manuscripts, and documents, which relate the story of this area of South Carolina. The museum includes the Williams-Brice House (1916), the Heritage Education Center (2003) and the Carolina Backcountry Homestead.
