The agency is mandated by law to collect, preserve and make available to the public and all branches of government, permanent public records, historical manuscripts, photographs and other materials that contribute to the understanding of New Mexico history.

ACFL has changed its name to the Northern New Mexico Regional Art Center (NNMRAC) and it is now partnering with the City of Española to provide arts management support to the Department of Community Services on the Plaza de Española. NNMRAC is located in the Convento on the Plaza, where NNMRAC sponsors year-round art classes and workshops for adults, after school and summer classes for children and youth, senior citizens, and for adults with disabilities.
