The Francis Land House is an educational institution that offers tours, exhibits and programs related to the history of Virginia Beach with particular emphasis on the colonial and federal eras.

Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Site

In 1927 the U.S. Congress established Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County Memorial National Military Park to commemorate the heroic deeds of the men engaged at the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness, and Spotsylvania Court House. Today the park also includes the historic structures of Chatham, Ellwood, Salem Church, and the "Stonewall" Jackson Shrine.

The Museum and Visitor Center and City of Fairfax provide a strategic base for visiting Washington, D.C., Manassas, the Tysons Corner area, and Northern Virginia including the Shenandoah Valley and Skyline Drive.The Visitor Center offers information about lodging, restaurants, transportation, historic and natural attractions, and special events for tourists and residents. Volunteers are needed and welcome.

Fauquier History Museum at the Old Jail

The Fauquier History Museum at the Old Jail is located in the old Fauquier County prison complex which includes two jails; one built in 1808 and the other in 1823. In 1966, the complex was closed and taken over by the Fauquier Historical Society to be used as a history museum.

First Landing State Park and Chesapeake Bay Center

Fort Huger

Fort Huger is a strategic Civil War fort located on a bluff overlooking the James River. This fort, along with Fort Boykin, was established to block the approach by land and river to the Confederate capital in Richmond. In 1861, Confederate engineer Col. Andrew Talcott surveyed several defensive sites along the James River to protect Richmond including Harden's Bluff and nearby Fort Boykin.

Fort Wool Historic Site
