PA Museums is Pennsylvania’s statewide museum association. We create and support museum community in Pennsylvania through our advocacy work, professional development programs, information sharing, networking projects, and an annual awards program to recognize exemplary work in the Commonwealth.
PA Museums began as the Pennsylvania Federation of Historical Societies in 1905 and advocated for the creation of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC). We are an independent nonprofit organization unrelated to state government, and we rely upon our programs, charitable giving, and membership to support our work.
PA Museums is the foremost advocate in Pennsylvania for museums and historical organizations. Our advocacy activities focus on state government policy and issues that directly impact our membership. PA Museums will advocate on behalf of our members on the local and federal levels from time to time, and a large part of our advocacy work is sharing information about museums with the broader public.
PA Museums posts statewide, regional, and national conferences and workshops that may be of interest to our members. Our own conferences and workshops are at Programs and Services on our website.
