The Augusta Military Academy Museum is located in the AMA Alumni House in Fort Defiance, Virginia. The museum sits among stately old trees and expansive lawns on the grounds of the now-closed military academy. Fort Defiance is located eight miles north of Staunton on U.S. Route 11, the historic Valley Pike.

The museum offers exhibits of uniforms and equipment, videos, literary works, artifacts and memorabilia from the 120 years of the Augusta Military Academy's operation.

The Camera Heritage Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which houses and displays over 4500 cameras and accessories.

Frontier Culture Museum

The Frontier Culture Museum is a living history site and an educational agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Museum features four historic, reconstructed working farms from Germany, Northern Ireland, England, and Botetourt County, Virginia, and a working 18th century blacksmith forge from Northern Ireland. The farms represent the daily lives and agricultural heritage of the peoples who came to the new world and formed a unique American culture.
Over the next several years, more historic living history sites and exhibits will be added to the Museum's offerings, including American Indian and West African sites.

Staunton Augusta Art Center

The Staunton Augusta Art Center is a non-profit community arts organization devoted to nurturing the creation and appreciation of visual art in Staunton and Augusta County. The center is located at the mouth of Gypsy Hill Park and is home to first class exhibits, art education and art in the park.

Historic House

The Museum galleries guide you through Wilson's public life, from his Princeton study to his historic Great War peace efforts. Serving from 1913 to 1921 as the 28th President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson is considered one of the greatest Presidents and the nation's first international leader. Woodrow Wilson's Birthplace depicts the Civil War, Presbyterian life in the Shenandoah Valley and houses the Woodrow Wilson Museum. Collections include his own personal limosine (Pierce Arrow) given to him by friends after he left office, there is also an education center and research library.

Jumbo Antique Fire Engine Museum houses the only remaining 1911 Robinson Chemical Fire Engine. The museum, founded in 1982 houses a collection of fire service items, some from the Civil War era. Exhibits a 911 Robinson Chemical Fire Engine and other fire-service related items.

The museum offers exhibits of uniforms and equipment, videos, literary works, artifacts and memorabilia from the 92 years of the Staunton Military Academy's operation.

About the Conferenc

The annual SMA conference attracts more than 300 museum professionals, board members, and volunteers from a wide variety of small museums. They attend sessions on topics ranging from collections and education to staffing and board issues. We offer a large Museum Resource Hall and plenty of informal networking opportunities for you to talk with (and get ideas from!) other small museum professionals and volunteers.
