WASP WWII Museum
Sweetwater, Texas

Built in 1929 and originally the home of the Sweetwater Airport, Hangar One now houses the National WASP WWII Museum. Look for a poster in the lobby which highlights a little of the rich aviation history of Sweetwater. During WWII, this hangar was on the “Civilian Side” of Avenger Field, where commercial planes landed. The military side was located where the Texas State Technical College campus is today.

The museum is conveniently located just minutes off Interstate 20 at 210 Loop 170 in Sweetwater, Texas. Pilots flying over Sweetwater can land at Avenger Field - the Sweetwater Airport (SWW). It can feel like the sands are shifting as museums face challenges and opportunities like changing patterns of visitorship, evolving technologies, revised funding strategies, and peoples’ desire for community.

The 2024 conference will explore contemporary issues facing museums, so that together we can take the helm to identify solutions and successfully steer our work forward
